SPECIAL INTERVIEW WITH DR. SINGH INTRACHOOTO

The Interview with Dr. Singh Intrachooto is Associate Professor of Building Innovation at Kasetsart University.

Q1. Could you please tell me how to be a designer in your style?

Answer: Many people ask me like this about which type of designer I am because they notice I design on many scales such as condominiums, chairs, and bags.

I think i am a designer who enjoys designing with mixed concepts together with materials.I have cool and good design ideas that I learned to solve the problems in functions or basic knowledge.

On the other hand, I usually use materials that other people don’t use. I use them to be the main material to achieve the concept not only in the building but also in the interior.

I always think from this point that is divided into two parts. The 1st part comes from concepts we learned in the part on design and functions. The 2nd part comes from the material that other designers don’t use.

Q2. Do you think what has an influence on designer work at the present day? (The example is the changing way of life from COVID-19.)

Answer: For me, climate change has an impact on me so much and I am worried about it more and more.

So, I think the world in the future won’t be fresh, lively, and livable as we think in the present day. I don’t think this world is going back to being balanced again.

Therefore, The thing I do is design works that have the least impact on the environment in the future.

Q3. What do you think about Digital World that engages and takes a role in designer business more?

Answer: i think it is important and inevitable. It is a normal process that the world goes around, so I think it is unavoidable.

Nowadays, we use 3D in home design. We talk about IoT (Internet of Things) more about things we designed.

DesignThese things are components in this world more and more and they cause effectiveness and safety in design.

Q4. In the future, do you think which way the design works grow?

Answer: From my point, it will grow to material because it uses fewer resources. Someone said that designers in the future must be the persons who use recycled materials.

Q5. Do you think how the manufacture of designed products made in Thailand has the potential for competing in the global markets?

Answer: No way because we don’t have many different ideas or styles. In the future, if we look into the sciences, we may compete.*4 Only in design, we can’t do it.

Q6. Do you think how much the projects drive Thai entrepreneurs enough to stimulate foreigners to become interested in Thai products? 

Answer: No way because we use traditional ways, nothing new.

1. ช่วยอธิบายการเป็น Designer ในแบบของคุณให้เราฟังได้ไหม?

คำตอบ : มีคนถามผมแบบนี้หลายคนเลย ว่าจริง ๆ แล้วผมเป็นนักออกแบบ แบบไหน เพราะว่าจะเห็นว่าผมออกแบบคอนโดมิเนียม ออกแบบเก้าอี้ ออกแบบกระเป๋า มันหลาย Scale มากฮะ แต่ผมคิดว่าผมเป็นนักออกแบบที่ Enjoy กับการใช้ Concept และ Material เข้ามาผนวกกันในการออกแบบก็มีความคิดในการออกแบบที่ได้เรียนมาว่าต้องมีแนวความคิดเก๋ๆ ดี ๆ แก้ปัญหา เป็นด้านในการใช้งานล้วน ๆ หรือเป็นในอีกด้านหนึ่งผมมักจะเลือกวัสดุที่คนอื่นไม่ใช้ มาเป็นวัตถุดิบหลักมาทำ Concept นั้นให้เป็นจริง ถึงแม้จะเป็นอาคารหรืองาน Interior ก็ตามผมจะคิดจากมุมนี้เสมอ ฉะนั้นจะมาจากสองขาด้วยกัน ขาด้านหนึ่งมาจากแนวคิดที่เราเรียน ในเรื่องของ Design การใช้งานต่าง ๆส่วนอีกด้านหนึ่งจะเป็นด้านที่เลือกสรรจากวัตถุดิบที่คนอื่นเค้าไม่ใช้

2. คุณคิดว่าอะไรมีอิทธิพลต่องาน Designer ในปัจจุบัน ? (เช่นรูปแบบการใช้ชีวิตที่เปลี่ยนไปจากเดิมเพราะ Co-vid)

คำตอบ : สำหรับผม ที่ผมรู้สึกว่ามีอิทธิพลกับผมมากเลยคือ Climate Change ที่ผมกังวลมากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆผมจึงคิดว่าโลกข้างหน้าจะไม่ สดชื่น สดใส น่าอยู่ เหมือนที่เราคิดในปัจจุบัน ผมไม่คิดว่าโลกนี้จะกลับไปสู่จุดสมดุลอีกครั้งหนึ่งดังนั้นสิ่งที่ผมทำคืองาน Design ที่จะมีผลกระทบน้อยต่อสิ่งแวดล้อมที่จะเกิดขึ้นในอนาคต

3.คุณมีความเห็นอย่างไรเกี่ยวกับโลก Digital ที่เข้ามามีส่วนร่วม และบทบาทมากขึ้นในวงการ Designer ?

คำตอบ : ผมคิดว่าสำคัญและหลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้ มันเป็นกระบวนการปกติที่โลกพาไป ฉะนั้นผมคิดว่าเราคงหลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้ เพราะในตอนนี้การออกแบบบ้านเราก็ใช้ 3D เราพูดถึง IOT (Internet of Things) มากขึ้นจากสิ่งที่เราออกแบบสิ่งเหล่านี้เป็นส่วนประกอบในโลกปัจจุบันมากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ และทำให้เกิดประสิทธิภาพทำให้เกิดความปลอดภัยในงาน

4. คุณคิดว่าในอนาคต งานด้าน Designer จะเติบโตไปในรูปแบบใด?

คำตอบ : จากมุมมองของผมต้องเติบโตไปในด้าน Material เพราะใช้ทรัพยากรน้อยลง และมีบางคนพูดว่า Designer ในอนาคตต้องเป็นนักออกแบบที่ใช้ของเหลือทิ้งกลับมาใช้ใหม่อีกครั้ง

5. คุณคิดว่าการผลิตสินค้าที่มีดีไซน์ในไทยมีศักยภาพในการแข่งขัน กับตลาดโลกได้มากน้อยอย่างไรบ้าง

คำตอบ : ไม่ได้เลย เพราะเราไม่มี แนวคิด หรือ สไตล์ที่แตกต่างมากนัก ผมว่าในอนาคตถ้าเราจะสู้ได้ต้องลงไปดูในเรื่องของวิทยาศาสตร์ ลำพัง Design อย่างเดียวเราสู้ไม่ได้

6. คุณคิดว่าโครงการผลักดันผู้ประกอบการในไทยเพียงพอต่อการ กระตุ้นให้ชาวต่างชาติเข้ามาสนใจสินค้าไทยได้มากน้อยแค่ไหน ?

คำตอบ : ไม่ได้เลย เพราะเราใช้วิธีการเดิม ไม่มีอะไรแปลกใหม่
