STYLE Bangkok 2025 Hosts ‘ASEAN Furniture Design Award 2025’, Spotlighting Emerging Design Talent Across the Region

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, today announced the winners of the ASEAN Furniture Design Award 2025 under the theme ‘ESG Renewal Material’, during a special awards ceremony held on the main stage at STYLE Bangkok 2025 (2 April 2025). The award presentation marks one of the fair’s key highlights and sets the tone for a dynamic event running from 2-6 April 2025 at Hall 1–3, Level G, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC).

The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Minister of Commerce, who presented trophies to the winners. The first prize was awarded to ‘Heritage 60 Stool’ by Raihan Syahmi, a student from Singapore, while the Popular Vote Award, determined through social media engagement, was presented to Deya Tsyna Saco from the Philippines for her design ‘Amara Bench’.

Launched by the ASEAN Furniture Industries Council (AFIC), the ASEAN Furniture Design Award provides a high-profile platform for students across the region to present their vision for sustainable furniture design. The initiative encourages emerging talent to explore environmental responsibility in design and represents a major opportunity for young Thai and ASEAN designers to step onto the international stage. The judging panel included experts from the DITP, Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), the Thailand Interior Designers’ Association (TIDA), as well as design professionals from AFIC’s member countries.

In Thailand, the competition opened to student submissions from September to November 2024, with shortlisted participants paired with esteemed design mentors to develop their prototypes. The mentors included: Doonyapol Srichan (pdm), Krit Phutpim (Dot Design Studio), Decha Archjananun (Thinkk Studio), Piboon Amornjiraporn (Plural Designs), and Worapong Manupipatpong (Atelier2+). Four standout designs were selected at the national level before advancing to the ASEAN finals.

The winning design answered the brief ‘Seat for the Future’, exploring concepts of sustainability in seating furniture through the use of environmentally responsible materials. Submissions were judged across multiple criteria including sustainability and community benefit, creativity and innovation, clarity of concept, commercial viability, market relevance,

durability, and user safety—with the top entries proving both imaginative and production-ready.
