Hemp: Design Objects with a Character
Thai designers have taken hemp as diverse decorative material for natural touch enhancement to contemporary furniture design. Hemp’s unmatched quality creates high demand in various industries worldwide.
Hemp’s Unique Qualities:
- Hemp fiber can be peeled into layers similar to onion. The smoothness and delicateness of the fabric can be tailored by the fineness of the fiber.
- Hemp fabric is extremely breathable. It is warmer in cold weather and cooler
in the heat.
- It is stronger than cotton, more absorbent than nylon, warmer and lighter than linen.
- It is non-allergenic.
In addition to these qualities, hemp furniture is pest-free which makes it an ideal material for bed and mattress. Thai designers heighten the creativity by combining hemp fiber with cotton or linen for shinier, smoother and softer fabric. Hemp products are easy to care for, most are machine washable. It is undoubted that hemp has bright future in home decorative design and it is a trend to watch.
A range of hemp products from various exhibitors will be displayed at Thailand International Furniture Fair held in conjunction with Interior Design Asia.
