THAIFEX – World of Food ASIA announced
the overwhelming success of the 2006 event
Over Two Billion Baht of circulated income was generated
and export volume was increased by 10%


The three-fold outstanding partnership of the Department of Export Promotion (DEP), the Thai Chamber of
Commerce (TCC) and Koelnmesse, aims high for the THAIFEX – World of Food ASIA events, to become a
world-class gastronomic extravaganza that impresses visitors the world over. This year’s event is geared up
and ready to create yet another impressive success, following last year’s phenomenon,which generated
over 2 Billion Baht of circulated income.

Mr. Chatchai Boonyarat ,Vice Chairman of The Thai Chamber of Commerce, stated that, “The three organizing
partners are aiming to steer the annual ‘THAIFEX – World of Food ASIA’ event to become one of the world’s
most significant food expositions. This ultimate goal has a possibility to succeed as high as 60%, judging from
success after success achieved by its predecessors in the previous years.”
         
“The 2006 event alone welcomed as many as over 83,000 international visitors. It also achieved a record-high
number of overseas exhibitors, a 137% increase from the 2005 event. The 2006 event generated over 2 Billion
Baht worth of circulated income and contributed to a 10% increasein export volume, or around USD 9,300
million, in comparison with the year 2005. Last year’s overwhelmingsuccess also resulted in the very busy first
quarter for this year as Thailand’s export volume of food-relatedproducts was achieved at USD 21,720 million,
a 5.7% increase for the same period in 2006.”, added Mr. Chatchai.

“The THAIFEX – World of Food ASIA event is already regarded as one of the foremost food expositions in
Asia-Pacific. And in terms of exhibition area, this year’s event will even beat that of the world-class ‘Foodex’
event in Japan. International exhibitors from over 20 countries have already confirmed their participation this
year, some of which are from South America and are joining for the first time. Next year, we aim to have even
more overseas exhibitors from as many as 40 countries.”, said Mr. Chatchai.

Mr. Chatchai further noted that, “The principle objectives of THAIFEX – World of Food ASIA still remain
unwavering: to provide a platform for local producers of top-quality food-related products and services to
demonstrate their capabilities to and exchange business know-how with international buyers and food
entrepreneurs. One of the highlights will be an interesting seminar on food export opportunities in 3 key
markets which are the United States, Japan and China.”

Promotional activities for THAIFEX – World of Food ASIA 2007 have been conducted extensively both in
Thailand and beyond. These activities include road shows to other world-class food fairs such as ‘ANUGA’
in Germany. Many Thai food producers and entrepreneurs will be joining the event, while their foreign
counterparts, from Australia, Cambodia, China, Malaysia and Indonesia, have also confirmed participation.
