THAIFEX - World of Food Asia, The Successful
Thai- German joint venture of Koelnmesse GmbH,
the Department of Export Promotion and the Thai
Chamber of Commerce is preparing for its third
edition: THAIFEX - World of Food Asia 2006 will
take place May 17-21, 2006 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Food Sector as Economic Engine
Thailand is South East Asia's second largest
economy and its economy has shown remarkable
improvement with growth forecast to be 9%
for 2004 following 6.3% in 2003. Various domestic
stimulation programs along the Dual-Track Policies
and a rebound in exports bolstered the renewed
growth that occurred in 2003. The economy of
Thailand is export-dependent, with export
accounting for 60% of GDP.
The Development of the food sector in Thailand
Changed since the year 1970 into the nineties in
an incomparable speed and is strongly associated
with the entrance of the country into the
international trade. The Thai foodstuffs industry
constitutes more than 14.4% of the entire exports
of the country, corresponds to a volume of exports
