to Inaugurate Fast Tracks to Automotive Product Exports |
For the first time ever in the country’s long-established automotive
industry,
the Department of Export Promotion (DEP), Ministry of Commerce, is
collaborating with Thailand Automotive Institute and the private sector
to organize the inaugural Thailand Auto Parts & Accessories 2005
(TAPA 2005) come September. Designed as fast tracks to business success,
the fair is expected to bring together important buyers and manufacturers
from all over the world to trade and share experiences, while highlighting
Thailand as a key production base in the region.
DEP Director-General Mrs. Chantra Puranariksha revealed: “TAPA 2005,
being held from 14-18 September 2005 at the
Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), will
confirm Thailand’s position as an automotive production base. Having
long supplied automotive products for many countries around the globe,
the industry has generated significant revenues for the country each
year. In 2004 alone, it exported 332,053 cars valued at 149,232.80
million baht; 831,287 motorcycles at 14,529.83 million baht; while
auto parts export value was at 47,432.31 million baht.”
Mrs. Chantra added that automotive export outlook in the first quarter
of 2005 appeared very promising with 86,962 cars already exported.
This figure represents 34.73% of the total number of cars produced
annually in Thailand and an increase of 13,353 units or 18.14% over
the same period last year. The total value of automotive exports for
this period was 40,337.99 million baht, an increase of 7,921.73 million
baht, or 24.44%, from last year. Engines exported in the first quarter
of 2005 were valued at 1,495.11 million baht, up 25.95% from 2004;
whereas the value of exported parts and spare parts reached 15,473.42
million baht and 866.14 million baht respectively, showing 81.89%
and 40.86% growth from 2004. The combined value of automobiles, engines,
parts and spare parts exported in the first quarter of 2005 climbed
to 58,172.66 million baht, increasing by 15,447.33 million baht, or
36.15%, from the first quarter of last year
Motorcycle exports in the first quarter of 2005, including CKD units,
rose to 266,359 vehicles, or 32.56% of last year’s annual total. This
represents an increase of 64,705 motorcycles, or 32.09%, from the
same period last year. The total export value is 3,615.41 million
baht, which is a 693.53 million baht, or a 23.73%, increase from 2004.
The value of parts exported was 3,496.99 million baht, up 538.51 million
baht, or 18.20%, from the previous year. However, the value of exported
spare parts plummeted to just 141.19 million baht, declining by 887.28
million baht, or 86.27%. The total value of motorcycles, parts, and
spare parts exported in the first quarter of 2005 was 7,253.59 million
baht, representing a 344.76 million baht, or a 4.99% increase from
the same period in 2004.
However, the total value of automobile and motorcycles exports including
engines, parts and spare parts, in the first quarter of 2005 was 65,426.25
million baht, registering a 15,792.09 million baht, or 31.82% increase
from the same period last year.
“In light of this potential, we are confident that Thailand Auto Parts
& Accessories 2005, the first fair of its kind in Thailand, will
be a great success. More than 200 leading automotive companies from
Thailand and overseas will display their products over an area of
some 10,000 square meters. Besides, TAPA 2005 will allow overseas
manufacturers to share experiences with their Thai counterparts, and
for manufacturers to meet their customers, business partners and competitors
alike,” added Mrs. Chantra.
TAPA 2005 will also feature an exhibition of cars, motorcycles and
other vehicles for export such as tuk-tuks, trucks and buses, as well
as auto parts, engines, tools and accessories. Buyers and importers
from Europe, the US, the Middle East, China, Japan, Australia, South
Africa, India, Pakistan, and from across the ASEAN region will be
joining the event on trade days from 14-16 September, The fair will
also be open to the general public from 17-18 September 2005, when
it is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors a day.
