‘Made in Thailand, Special, 2008’
Thailand’s grand shopping extravaganza to assist Thai consumers
 
The Ministry of Commerce is joined by as many as 2,682 leading Thai manufacturers, exporters and entrepreneurs in making sure that the ‘Made in Thailand, Special, 2008’ event will be a most comprehensive showcase of the very best products and services Thailand has to offer. With as many as 5,596 exhibition booths confirmed to date, the grand shopping extravaganza is poised to meet, or even exceed, its objectives to assist consumers with good quality products at special prices, as well as, to stimulate domestic economy and to promote Thai products to international buyers. Apart from the wondrous array of products and services on display, visitors will be entertained by a range of special activities featuring famous actors, actresses and singers. The event is expected to welcome over a Million visitors from all over the world, and to generate as much as over 5 Billion Baht worth of sales.
 
Mr. Chaiya Sasomsup, the Commerce Minister, stated that, “The Ministry of Commerce has been responsible for organizing the Made in Thailand events since 1987, and over the years, the main objectives of this annual event have remained unchanged. It aims to present the very best products and services from virtually all Thai industries, as well as, to provide the opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs to engage in direct trade negotiations with potential buyers and partners from around the world.”
 
“This year, the Royal Thai Government has a policy to help alleviate the burdens of Thai consumers during the time of higher living costs due to rising oil prices. And we have coordinated with all related agencies under the Ministry of Commerce, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Thai Industries and other related trade associations, to bring together a fascinating range of premium-quality products made in Thailand, all available at very special prices!”, added Mr. Chaiya.
 
“This year’s event is set to surpass its predecessors in a number of aspects, including the numbers of entrepreneurs and manufacturers participating, as well as, the variety of products and services on offer. Visitors will delight in a grand showcase featuring as many as 5,596 booths and 2,682 companies, displaying necessary consumer products of export quality. And to accommodate with the overwhelming response from the public and private sectors, we have significantly expanded the exhibition area from 27,000 m2 last year to 97,000 m2, covering the entire area of Challenger 1-3 and Hall 3-8 of IMPACT Muang Thong Thani.”,
said Mr. Chaiya.
 
He further noted that, “The major highlight of the event, of course, is the wondrous selection of the very best merchandise Thailand has to offer, ranging from household products to industrial raw materials. The product categories to be on display are ‘Fashion Clothing’, ‘Textiles’, ‘Leather goods’, ‘Jewelry’, ‘Accessories’, ‘Food and Beverage’, ‘Furniture and Home Decorative Items’, ‘Automotive Accessories and Parts’, ‘Tools’, ‘Electrical and Electronic Appliances’, ‘Health and Beauty Products’, ‘OTOP products’, tourism and hospitality businesses, entertainment businesses, franchising businesses, as well as, a showcase of innovative products from all parts of Thailand. These products all contributed to Thailand’s remarkable export revenue of 5.24 Trillion Baht last year. And during the first half of this year, we have already generated export revenue worth 2.8 Trillion Baht.”
 
The ‘Made in Thailand, Special, 2008’ event is scheduled to take place from August 8th to 17th at Challenger 1-3 and Hall 3-8, IMPACT Muang Tong Thani. Interesting activities at this year’s event include the special trade negotiation platform to stimulate the exports of Thai products to existing and new markets. This activity will be joined by as many as 600 potential buyers from Thailand and overseas, including from Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, who have confirmed their participation.
 
Other special activities include the presentation of two grand prizes –
two brand-new automobiles – to the lucky winners in a lucky draw.
On Mother’s Day, there will also be the unveiling of the jasmine-scented blouses from the Trade Mart Fashion Avenue project organized by entrepreneurs in leading shopping districts. Also, visitors will be entertained by special fashion shows featuring prominent Thai designers and a hair styling contest, as well as, benefit from special consultation services on personal grooming, home repair, car repair and fuel-efficient engines.
 
Visitors will also have a chance to meet and greet with famous actors, actresses and singers including Add Carabao, AF singers, Calorie Blah Blah, Budokan, Sincharoen Brothers and more. Other fantastic prizes to be given away include gold necklaces, electrical appliances and accommodation packages. The event is expected to welcome over a Million visitors from all over the world, and to generate as much as over 5 Billion Baht worth of sales.
