Ministry of Commerce joins forces with public and private sectors in organizing
‘Made in Thailand, Special, 2008’ to assist consumers during this time of higher
living costs
The Ministry of Commerce reveals that public and private sectors from various industries all around
Thailand have joined forces to ensure that the upcoming ‘Made in Thailand, Special, 2008’ will be a most
fascinating showcase of export-grade Thai products and outstanding services, all at very special prices.
The event aims to assist Thai consumers and stimulate domestic economy during this time of higher
living costs. It will also provide great opportunities for Thai manufacturers to export their products to
new markets. Highlights include prizes for lucky winners, which are worth over a Million Baht, as well
as, the chance to meet and greet with famous Thai stars and singers. The event is expected to
welcome over 1,000,000 visitors both from Thailand and beyond.
Mr. Rachane Potjanasunthorn, Director-General, the Department of Export Promotion (DEP),
the Ministry of Commerce, stated that, “The ‘Made in Thailand, Special, 2008’ event is organized
as part of the government policies to assist people during this time of economic difficulties. The event
aims to help consumers by providing high-quality products and services, all at highly reasonable prices,
as well as, to encourage Thai people to use Thai products. We have received overwhelming response
and collaboration from various agencies, both within and outside the Ministry of Commerce. These
agencies include the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Thai Industries and many relevant
trade associations. They all promise to bring their very best services and innovations from various
industries to showcase and retail at this event. This will undoubtedly help underline the outstanding
production prowess of Thailand in the eyes of foreign buyers. Up to this point, we are proud to say that
there will be more than 2,000 companies exhibiting their products and services in over 4,500 booths.”
The ‘Made in Thailand, Special, 2008’ is scheduled to take place between August 8th-17th, 2008,
at the Challenger 1-3 and Hall 3-8 of IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. It is set to become one of Thailand’s
most significant trade expositions of the year, featuring leading producers and entrepreneurs from
virtually all industries. Export-grade products and services on display will be available at very special
prices. Some highlights of the event include the following.
• ‘Franchising Businesses’ project by the Department of Business Development
• Rice products from the Department of Foreign Trade and the Public Warehouse Organization
• ‘Music Companies and Entertainment Business’ exhibition by the Department of Intellectual Property
• ‘Thong Fah’ low-price products by the Department of Internal Trade
The DEP Director-General further noted that, “Products from Thailand have always been highly regarded
by foreign consumers in terms of distinctive designs and dependable quality, and these factors
contributed to the fact that Thailand generated up to 5.24 Trillion Baht worth of export income last
year. As for this year, our export income up until May has already reached 2.3 Trillion Baht,
and we hope that the ‘Made in Thailand, Special, 2008’ will provide domestic and international buyers
the convenient access to the very best products and services Thailand has to offer, especially those with proven, established qualities.”
Thailand’s overseas trade promotion offices have confirmed that trade delegates from important
markets will be coming to the event for direct trade negotiations with Thai entrepreneurs. They
are from ASEAN countries, South Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The event is anticipated
to welcome as many as 1,000,000 visitors from Thailand and overseas.

prices, as well as, by a range of special activities. These include the ‘Mom’s Surprises’ on Mother’s Day;
