| Thailand: the Region's Leading
Education Center
Thailand's expanding role as a regional center for quality education
will be highlighted particularly at the Department of Export Promotion's
third 'Thailand International Education Exhibition 2004'
to be held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in the
heart of Bangkok.
The three-day event, 27 to 29 February, will include displays and
activities offering educationally minded parents and members of
the public the opportunity to meet representatives from educational
institutes ranging from kindergarten through to graduate programs
of study.
With renewed confidence building in the Thai and regional economies,
parents are again turning their full attention to their children's
educational needs. In 2004, unlike any other time in Asia's history,
more and more of the leading choices in international education
are found in the region, especially in Thailand.
From international and bilingual programs, boarding and non-boarding
schools, curricula based on the British or American system, or the
International Baccalaureate, regardless of which language is spoken
at home, i.e., English, German, French, Chinese, Japanese or Thai;
or the amount of the budget each one can afford, students now have
a wide range of educational options to choose from both in the Metropolitan
Bangkok area and around the country.
With existing international programs expanding and evolving at
many of the country's leading universities and with many local universities
establishing academic and student exchange programs with universities
and colleges from around the world, more and more students can combine
study in Thailand with study abroad.
Thailand's role as a rapidly expanding educational center is reflected
in the phenomenal increase in international students studying in
Thailand, growing by over 250% over the last three years with an
additional 20% growth expected in 2004. In part, this trend is due
to the reduced cost of tuition compared to other overseas destinations,
up to 50%, and to the low cost of living and reduced expenditures
in travel compared to many other overseas destinations.
More important, Thailand is becoming recognized as the leading
Asian environment in which children and young adults can be exposed
to and benefit from the best educational traditions and practices
found in both the East and West.
Aware of the significant role Thailand is playing in the area of
international education, the Department of Export Promotion, Ministry
of Commerce, would like to invite all interested parents, students,
educators, academicians and members of the public to attend this
advantageous event.
