International Education in Thailand…
A High Potential Business Opportunity |
| |
The Department of Export Promotion (DEP), Ministry of Commerce, recently announced the favorable business trend of education in Thailand as the country registers a continuous growth
in the annual revenues from foreign students to surpass the 10,000 million baht mark this year. Reflecting this optimism, the DEP is ready to strengthen its position by launching its Thailand International Education Exhibition 2007 (TIEE 2007) next February to attract more students from target markets and encourage more Thai students to enroll for international education courses
in Thailand.
Recent statistics show that the numbers of Thai and foreign student enrolments in the country’s international education in Thailand have increased from 63,754 in 2005 to 68,000 in 2006.
The revenues from the annual spending of 20,000 foreign students (500,000 baht per person
per year) account for 10,000 million baht in national income while the 48,000 Thai students who decided to study in Thailand instead of going overseas have helped the country save hundreds
of billion baht worth of foreign currencies. |

DEP’s Director-General Mr Rachane Potjanasuntorn revealed: “Thailand’s international education Potjanasuntornsystem plays anintegral part in national economy today.
Not only is it a multi-billion baht servicesector but also a thriving business which promotes the quality society, cultural
exchanges and technology development. The high potential sector now enjoys a remarkable growth as reflected in the ever growing numbers of students who expressed greater confidence in our education quality. Besides, the cost of living in Thailand is extremely reasonable compared to other countries in the region.” |

| |
| “In 2007, we expect to build on these already impressive figures by raising the enrolment numbers by 5 to 10 per cent, with the biggest number coming from students of our neighbouring countries. Also, we mustn’t lose sight of the need to reserve our foreign currencies, and by convincing Thai students to choose to enroll for international education in Thailand, we may reduce the outflow of hundreds of billions of baht each year,” said Mr Rachane. |

“TIEE 2007 will serve to showcase the great potential of international education in Thailand. We have registered increasing numbers of visitors during the past events and we are confident to achieve even more,” he concluded.
Organized by the DEP, TIEE 2007 features exhibitions from institutes of all levels, including schools under the Ministry of Education, English-based curricula, international schools, universities which offer English-base curricula, short English-base courses such as cooking, Muay Thai boxing, |
