Latest collections of gifts, decorative items and housewares ready for show at
BIG&BIH – April 2008, while Ministry of Commerce assures a 5% export growth this year |

Bangkok - April 17, 2008 -- Leading Thai manufacturers and exporters of lifestyle products are ready to
show off their new products to international buyers worldwide at the 25th Bangkok International Gift Fair
and Bangkok International Houseware Fair or BIG&BIH – April 2008, organized by Department of Export
Promotion (DEP), Ministry of Commerce during April 17-22, 2008 at the Challenger Hall, IMPACT,
Muang Thong Thani. |

Mr. Siripol Yodmuangcharoen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and chairman of BIG&BIH
opening ceremony, said this morning that for over the past 10 years, BIG & BIH have gained warm
acceptance from international buyers as one of Asia’s most attractive sourcing platforms for gifts,
premium, home decorative items and household products. |

“The Ministry of Commerce has continued to put its great efforts to foster Thailand’s exports by several
means, including the organization of the renowned trade fairs such as BIG & BIH. Such events have
produced greater business opportunities and boosted export values at large,” said the Permanent
Secretary. |

The authority foresees that the export value of gifts, premiums, home decorative products, home textiles,
toys, kitchenware and tableware in 2008 will grow by at least five percents. During the first two months of
this year (January – February 2008), the export value of these products has reach USD 260.81 million or
8.085 billion baht, which is 15.14 percents increased from the same period last year. In 2007, the total
export value of the above products was USD 1.712 billion or 53.098 billion baht, an increase of 8.05
percents from the 2006’s figure. |

Meanwhile, Mr. Rachane Potjanasunthorn, director-general of the Department of Export Promotion (DEP)
stated, “Trade fair is a crucial marketing tool that will help promote export products to the global market.
Moreover, it is a significant marketplace where local producers and exporters can meet with international
buyers that will lead to trade negotiations and at large.” |

The 25th BIG&BIH are welcoming a total of 670 exhibitors who will occupy 1,836 exhibiting booths
showcasing fine-designed lifestyle products ranging from gifts, premiums, home decorative items,
home textiles, handicrafts, houseware products, toys, stationery and office supplies and many more.
Among them are 20 overseas exhibitors from Ghana, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos,
Cambodia, Myanmar, Pakistan, China, Taiwan and Italy. |

Among the exhibitors of the shows are some of Thailand’s most prominent brands in design such as
Gavang, an internationally acclaimed producer of eco-jewelry who will flaunt its latest creation “The Gold
Collection”, Bara Windsor & Co., Ltd, who will present new barware collections under the brand
‘Morf’, HARNN&THANN with their new high-end home spa collection and Tazana with its brand-new
lighting collection ‘Renue’. |

The other exhibitors to launch their new products at the show are KID-OX, a producer of graphic design
home decorative items under the brand ‘Harmann’ and Zabede, a DEP's nurtured brand that produces
ethnic-styled apparel, accessories and home textile collections. |

This year’s summer event will also feature 47 new exhibitors who attend BIG&BIH for the first time.
These include Miracle Tree Ltd., Part who produces aromatherapy products under ‘8 Miracles’ brand
and Country Gift Co, Ltd - a producer and exporter of country-styled hand-painted home decorative
products. |

Apart from the displays of astonishing products, the other highlight of the 25th BIG&BIH is
“THAI DESIGN TO THE WORLD” - a group exhibition of selected pieces of design works created by
professional and up-and-rising Thai designers. Visitors to this year’s summer show can also participate in
a seminar on “Regulations & Trends of Gifts & Home Decorative products in Overseas Market” on April
18-19 from 9.00am to 5.00pm. The organizer also launch a special activity called ‘Thailand Trade Mart Tour’
by taking overseas buyers to visit Jatujak Weekend Market on Friday 18th,
April 2008 during 9.30 a.m.-3.30 p.m. |

The DEP, as the fair organizer, expected a total number of 16,000 trade visitors to attend throughout
the first four days of this year’s summer show, while a total sales value of 400 million baht is anticipated
to be generated from trade negotiations at the show. |

At last year’s show (BIG&BIH-April 2007), there was a total of 16,970 trade visitors attending the fair;
4,410 out of those were from abroad. The top-five overseas visiting countries are U.S.A., Japan,
Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan. A total of 578 million baht-worth sales value was produced last year;
180 million baht out of which was created from on-spot sales orders, while the rest was the output of
continuous sales orders in that year. |

BIG&BIH are held twice annually in April and October by the Department of Export Promotion, the Ministry
of Commerce, with the purpose to create business and export opportunities for producers and exporters
of gifts, premiums, home decorative items, housewares, toys, stationery and office supplies. |

The next edition of BIG&BIH will be held on October 14-19, 2008 at the Challenger Hall, IMPACT,
Muang Thong Thani. The first four days (April 14-17) are reserved for trade negotiations, while April 18-19
