Frequently Asked Questions - BIFF&BIL 2008

A. GENERAL QUESTIONS
A1. What is BIFF&BIL all about?
BIFF&BIL is a fashion trade fair for apparel, textile and fashion accessories (BIFF),
and leather goods (BIL).  It is held yearly in August by the Department of Export
Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, under the Royal Thai Government.
A2. How long has the fair been held?
BIFF known as Bangkok Ready-To-Wear Fair was first held in 1989, while BIL known as
Bangkok Leather Fair was first held in 1992.  Until 5 years ago, BIFF and BIL were held as
separate fairs at different time of the year and their original objectives are to promote
Thai fashion products to world market. With the international and other ASEAN countries
cooperation, these 2 fairs became the ASEAN platform for ASEAN fashion.
So this year we will witness the 23rd fair for BIFF and the 21st fair for BIL.
A3. What’s new at the fair this year?
BIFF&BIL this year will be very different from the past due to several reasons.  First,
the fair’s emphasis has been shifted toward more the design-oriented and branded goods,
while the contract manufacturing and material suppliers still cover a good part of the fair.
Second, the fair is divided into clear zonings for buyer’s convenience.  Third, and perhaps
the most important change, overseas exhibitors, brands and designers- particularly from
ASEAN countries- will participate in BIFF&BIL2008 and make it the most important fair in
the region.  Buyers and visitors will be able to view works by designers from Indonesia,
Malaysia, Philippines as well as Thailand from their booths as well as from the fashion
runways scheduled twice a day throughout the trade days.
A4. How are the zoning divided?
For the fashion and apparel part, the zonings include: Fashion design, Sourcing from First
to Finish, Brand Preference, Pick & Pay, Exotic Asia and  Fashion Accessories. While the
Leather part, they include Foot Moves, Bags & Totes, Tanning Materials &accessories,
and other supporting service related in fashion & leather industries. Moreover,
International & Asia Power is designed for National Pavilions.
A5. When is the fair open?
The fair is held between August 27th to 31st.  The first three days, Aug. 27th to 29th,
are for trade visitors and held between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The last two days, 30th and 31st
which fall during a weekend, the fair is open to public and open between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
