While it will always be difficult to establish exactly the birth of the Thai Weaving indyustry, its modern roots can be conveniently traced to the years preceding the Second World War when a handful of Chinese immigrants set up factories in southern Bangkok to manufacture mosquito nets, wrap-arounds, sarong and other basic items to meet the demand for clothes in a country distrupted by the ravages of war.

The factories were located in Samyan, Suan Luang, Charoenphol and Chula Soi 16, a majority home-based and family -run. Most pf the work was manual the handloom being the order of the day. Business was tight and factories realixed that in order to survive they needed to corperate and consolidate. The year of reckoning was 1945 when factory owner, about 20 of them, reached an agreement to set up an association with Mr. Liu Poh Sing as their chairman.
