From the gathering Merchants in May 1961, the merchants from Thailand, China, and Japan have reached
an agreement to establish the association under the name of " The Union Textile Merchants association of
Thailand " which is under the control of the Tradeb Institutions Division, the Department of Internal Trade,
the Ministry of Commerce

The role of the Association on the provision of assistance to its members on those days focused on the customs, the Revenue Department, and the trade dispute as most of the textile merchants imported fabric or bought fabric from the import companies or from the forign companies' agents which have established in Thailand. Later, Thailand can produce its textile products without importing it from aboard and the thread spinning and textile factories have been established more in Thailand. The fabric has been dyed, printed and processed into new textile products with special technique, so the Revenue Department ha interpreted the word, "produce" in an attempt to fully collect the business tax. The Association (with the help of the Revenue Department) has explained and indicated to the members so that the will correctly pay the production tax.

Later in 1966, the Trade Asociation Act prohibited to use the word, " of Thailand " Attached to the name of the association. Therefore, the name of the association has been renewed into   " The Union Textile Merchants Association ( UTMA )
Or THAI TEXTILE MERCHANTS ASSOCIATION (TMA) " since June 6, 1967 onwards and were names of the chairman of the Associate as Follows :
